Welcome to Dharamshala. The High snow clad Dhauladhar ranges form a magnificent backdrop to the hill resort of Dharamshala. This is the principal township of Kangra district and overlooks widespread of the plains. With dense pine and deodar forests, numerous streams, cool healthy air, attractive surroundings and the nearby snowline, Dharamshala has everything for a perfect holiday. It is full of life and yet peaceful.
The headquarters of His Holiness the Dalai Lama are at upper Dharamshala. Covering a wide area in the form of twin settlement, lower Dharamshala (1380m) is a busy commercial center. While upper Dharamshala (1830m) with the suburbs of Mcleodganj and Forsytheganj, retains a British flavor and colonial lifestyle. The charming church of St. John in the wilderness is situated here and this is the final resting place of Lord Elgin, a British Viceroy of India during the 19th century. There is also a large Tibetan community who have made this place their home. Numerous ancient temples like Jwalamukhi, Brijeshwari and Chamunda lie on the plains below Dharamshala. On arrival, get transferred to your hotel and check-in. Rest of the day at leisure.
Excursion to Bir for Paragliding & Local Sightseeing in Dharamshala
After an early breakfast today, hit the road to Bir Billing for Paragliding (at extra cost on direct payment basis). Then head back to Dharamshala and get ready for a local sightseeing tour of all the major attractions of Dharamshala. Visit and explore Dal Lake, Church, Bhagsu Nag Temple and Tibetan Monastery - all filled with natural beauty. After lunch, we embark on a visit to the famous Tibetan Medical Centre (where various ailments are treated using rare Tibetan medicines, and St. John Church, one of the oldest churches of the region. Some of the other places to visit include Kangra Art Museum, Tea Gardens and Kunal Pathri Temple. Overnight stay at hotel in Dharamshala.
Transfer from Dharamshala to Dalhousie
Check out from your hotel after breakfast. Later, hit the road to Dalhousie - a famous hill station and unique summer retreat in Himachal. Watch for curious painted rock carvings of Buddhist deities along the south side of the ridge. The ravishing rhododendrons, gorgeous greens and pristine air add to the beauty of Dalhousie. Quite a few Tibetan refugees have found and made their homes in Dalhousie as well. You can also choose to visit the British-era churches of St John (1863) and St Francis (1894) or wander around the market areas of Subhash Chowk and Gandhi Chowk. Your evening is free for leisure activities. Overnight stay at hotel in Dalhousie.
Day Excursion to Khajjiar and Chamba
After breakfast, get ready to head to Khajjiar (approx. 30 kms from Dalhousie) - India's Switzerland. This unmistakably scenic saucer shaped plateau is surrounded by dense pine and thick forests of deodar along the fringes of the exquisite glade of Khajjiar (1085 m). Horse riding and zorbing are two very fun things to do here. When you are out sightseeing, take the time to step in to a temple dedicated to Khajji Nag. Behold snake idols here, as it is a 12th century AD temple dedicated to Naga, the lord of serpents. Within the temple are life size wooden images of the five Pandav brothers.Later, get ready to proceed to Chamba (approx. 25 kms from Khajjiar) and after exploring the sights, get back to Dalhousie. Transfer from Dalhousie to Amritsar (With Wagah Border)
After breakfast, check out from hotel in Dalhousie and we drive to Amritsar by road. After arrival and check in, visit the Indo-Pak Border (Wagah Border) to watch the Flag Retreat Ceremony. Wagah is an army outpost on the Indo-Pak border 30 kms from Amritsar where the daily highlight is the evening 'Beating the Retreat' ceremony. In the ceremony, soldiers from both countries march in perfect drill and go through the steps of bringing down their respective national flags. As the sun starts to go down and the day draws to a close, the lights are turned on - marking the end of the day amidst a thunderous applause and nationalistic fervor. Local Sightseeing - Departure from Amritsar
After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Amritsar and visit the most important, gilded Sikh shrine Golden Temple - considered the holiest gurudwara and a symbol of the spiritual and historical traditions of the Sikhs. Later, get transferred to the airport/railway station to board your flight/train back home. Your tour has come to an end.
